I worked at the Royal Institution (Ri) for several years, producing videos and graphics and leading their social media. We continued to work together for several years after I moved on.
Answering the internet’s questions
The Ri runs a hugely successful YouTube channel to this day. For a while we ran a series engaging with the channel’s very enthusiastic audience by answering their science questions in the most clear and entertaining way we could, mixing simple demonstrations, animations, and explanation. I produced these along with presenter Jon Farrow; here are a few of my favourites.
Infographics
I produced a number of infographics on everything from which fictional characters went to the moon, to how touchscreens work. A few examples:
Tidbits of loveliness
The greatest joy of working at the Ri was the opportunity to work on almost any subject in an almost any format. A ‘mission patch’ I designed for a set of space-themed lectures was smuggled all the way to Tim Peake on the International Space Station; I brought to life gems of science history from their phenomenal archives; and I even got my hands covered in ink hand-making branded Michael Faraday stash.
